Anonymous asked: Ok,so this isn't really a sex related question but I thought I should ask here. So I've been having PMS symptoms for about two weeks. My skin is breaking out,my breasts are sore,I've had cramps,I've been feeling low & stressed. I was supposed to get my period around the 13th but my periods have never been regular so I didn't worry abut it but now I'm feeling lousy & my period has yet to come. I'm definetely not pregnant but any tips on how to calm my hormones down or get my period?Great blog btw

If this kinda thing happens regularly, I would recommend trying out birth control. Not every brand of pill helps every woman but if you stick with it you can often eventually find a pill that regulates your cycle and alleviates some of those symptoms.

You may have just missed a period, which is perfectly okay. This happens often due to stress, change in routine/ exercise patterns, change in diet, or just a hormonal ‘blip’. If you miss your period more than 3 times in a row though I would go to the doctor. They can give you drugs to induce your cycle to “restart” or give you a checkup to see if there’s any other underlying problems (these are rare, so I wouldn’t worry about them after only a few missed periods, but things like PCOS and early menopause should be identified sooner rather than later).

There’s no real way to control your hormones other than hormonal treatments as mentioned above, but you can control period symptoms by eating right and generally keeping healthy.

Your metabollism is faster just before and during your period, so you may need an extra snack during the day to keep your energy up. Certain foods are claimed to help or worsen symptoms. Unfortunately caffeine, alcohol, red meat and dairy should be avoided, as should the fatty and sugary foods that (twistedly) we crave the most. Fish, high fibre and high vitamin foods will also help. Eat smaller meals more often rather than two big meals to avoid blood sugar dips. Keep your hydration levels up also.

My best symptom relief is a warm bath, I don’t know what I’ll do without a bath when I live in an apartment with only a shower next year! Light exercise and plenty of sleep will also help enormously too.

You can also get over the counter supplements. Primrose oil, fish oil etc and vitamin/ mineral tablets. Look in the women’s health section of a pharmacy.

And thanks! :)

Anonymous asked: So this was like the fourth time i've had sex with this particular guy and was the only time we've used a condom. The next day he fingered me and the day after that it really hurt to pee? When i google it, it says either a UTI or perhaps an STI but i just wanted to see if anyone has had the same problem? I know my best bet is to go to the clinic but i just want someone to try and help me out :( lol

- Livvy

STI or UTI, definitely could be unfortunately. Or soreness from rough sexual activity is perfectly normal. Latex allergy perhaps? If it was the first time you used a condom. Or a small chance of it being thrush related as well.

You’re right though your doctor will know best as they can exam you :) Hope this helps.

Anonymous asked: Hello. I've recently started to explore my body these past few weeks and looked at myself down there for the first time three days ago. As expected, I was quite surprised with some of the things I found out about my own body. Now, I'm a very pale girl, but the area around my anus is considerably darker than my own skin. Is that normal?

- Livvy

Perfectly normal :)

I believe it’s to do with areas that rub and sweat more being darker. I’m not 100% sure why but yeah, it’s absolutely fine.

Good on you for getting familiar with yourself :D

Anonymous asked: Is it normal that my vagina smells musty/sweaty after a day at school, school is around 6 hours long. I shower daily but it smells sweaty even when I don't sweat.

- Livvy

Vaginas don’t smell particularly rosey at the best of times. It’s normal for there to be a slight smell after you’ve been wearing your clothes all day, that area can sweat without you even noticing really. If you wear knickers made from synthetic fabrics (plastic based etc) rather than natural (cotton, silk etc) then that may cause you to sweat more and they don’t absorb sweat either. You also probably notice it more because you know that smell.

If it’s very pungent, you may have an infection such as thrush, this is usually accompanied by itching and thick/lumpy discharge. Get a checkup with a doctor if you think this may be the case.

Anonymous asked: Hey, is it normal if when I cum, my semen is either translucent or slightly yellow-tinted? Also, tips for making one's foreskin less tight?

- Livvy

Yes, normal.

I’d recommend you go see a doctor. They can prescribe ointment and stretching exercises, or if necessary a small surgery if it is very tight to the point of causing regular pain.

Anonymous asked: im a virgin 16 year old girl and daily i get a lot of discharge. im scared there is something wrong but i don't know how to bring it up with my mum to get to the doctors... especially because i have recently started going out with a new boy and i don't want her to think that he's given me something :$ p.s. he hasn't xx

- Livvy

You don’t have to tell your mum, if you go in a schoolbreak or on a weekend and book your own appointment. Doctors have to be completely confidential. But if you feel you need to then just tell her it’s been like that since before you were going with your boyfriend, she can’t argue with that. Even if she is suspicious or not happy about it (which would be dumb but sometimes parents are dumb) she will still take you to the doctor because that’s in your best interests to get it seen to.

All girls have some discharge, especially at your age, so I’m sure it’s nothing serious. But you’re very right to go see the doctor as they will be able to exam you and tell you what’s up much better than I can. Hope it clears up for you.

Anonymous asked: Is having discharge bad ? I have it & it's gross. Idk why I have it either.

- Livvy

No, it’s normal.

Scroll down the blog and I have posted descriptions of abnormal discharge, unless it looks like that then you are fine.

You have it because it works just like mucus in the nose/throat: it is secreted to trap pathogens and other foreign particles that could cause infection, and then flushes them out of the body. There’s nothing gross about it, all vaginas secrete it and it’s keeps you healthy. What would be gross is every time you got some dead skin cells or bacteria up there and your vagina got all crusty and gooey and sore and swollen, until you went infertile.

Anonymous asked: I'm a girl and I'm 17, I have a boyfriend and I have sex. is it normal that always throughout the day, my underwear is wet? I think it's called discharge but I'm not sure? it's not like I'm horny at all, but it always happens and I'm almost never not dry down there. :/

- Livvy

Yep, that’s discharge. Completely normal.

As long as it is clear/white/cream/slightly yellowish, and not yellow/green or lumpy, then it os normal.

If it is yellow/green/lumpy, you may have thrush or another infection.

If it is pink/brown at the start or end of your period, that is also normal, but if it seems pink or brown at any other time that can sometimes also indicate a medical problem.

If you think it is abnormal or excessive, see a doctor.

Anonymous asked: Sex with my ex, who had a very large penis, was always fine, but with my current boyfriend who is slightly smaller, sex is having a weird effect on me. The skin on my labia and perenium sometimes splits open. The cuts on my perenium are absolutely tiny (resembling a bunch of tiny paper cuts) while the splits on my labia are larger and there are only one or two at any given time. Peeing burns so much when they're fresh. I'm also wondering whether my pill could be a contributing factor to this?

- Livvy

Are you sure the slits are in occurence with each time you have sex? If your pee is burning, it may be an infection. Thrush can dry the skin out, making it itchy and crack. Many STDs can also make you itchy or cause skin lumps or bumps.
I have heard of girls going on the pill having trouble getting wet, not quite as sure about external dryness but I guess yeah, they could be linked.

This sounds like one for a doctor to be honest, it’s hard to tel without examination. You can get checked out at your local GP (they’ve seen it all before, don’t worry) but if you are uncomfortable with that there are also specialist gynecology clinics you can go to.

Anonymous asked: To the girl asking about the downstairs area smelling: I used to have that worry too. What I realized is that a girl is so used to the way that she smells, she can smell it a mile away. Even with pants on. I wouldn't worry so much about other people detecting it so much. Hope this helps!
